Untitled (single bed)

Mixed Media
10 x 14 x 14 cm (approx)

From the exhibition, Popping the Cherry (2009)

In literal terms, to ‘pop the cherry’ and loose one’s virginity commonly arouses a felt loss of innocence and awareness of one’s innate sexual condition. Most prevalent during the early ages of consent, the pubescent teenager is bound to endure intense emotions on first acquaintance with their new found sexuality. Untitled (single bed) speaks explicitly about this juvenile experience: the single divan bed, host to the majority of ‘first time’ encounters: the childish duvet cover our parents promised to replace on reaching the age of 13: the blood-stained evidence of our irreversible admission into adulthood.
